U.S. Judiciary To Make Court Proceeding Recordings Available Online

The legal news site JURIST is reporting that the Judicial Conference of the United States has approved a pilot program to make free audio recordings of court proceedings available online.

The Conference is the policy-making body for the U.S. federal judiciary, which includes Supreme Court justices, court of appeals judges, and district court judges.

According to an Associated Press wire story referred to by the JURIST item:

"At present, recording devices and cameras are prohibited in all federal courtrooms. However, in some high-profile cases the Supreme Court releases audio recordings of oral arguments. Some federal trial courts, such as the one in Philadelphia, sell daily audio recordings of hearings".

"The pilot program, set to launch in the next few months, would put those recordings on the court's electronic records database for download".
