More Words of the Year 2007
The Oxford Dictionary's word of the year is "locavore". The only word relating to law that made the top 10 list is the verb "to tase", to shoot with the electrical discharge pistol or Taser.
Other English-language dictionaries have come out with their selections:
- Merriam-Webster's Word of the Year 2007: w00t - "expressing joy (it could be after a triumph, or for no reason at all); similar in use to the word 'yay'. "
- Webster's New World Dictionary 2007 Word of the Year: grass station - "a pun on 'gas station', a grass station refers to a theoretical fill-up spot in the not-too-distant future."
- Dictionary.com Words of the Month 2007: "Dictionary.com presents Words of the Year for 2007. For each month, we chose a word or phrase that was prominent or new according to our search logs and research regarding searches elsewhere on the Internet." The word for December is "subprime mortgage"
