Annual Report on Phishing Scams

An organization called PhishTank has released a report that examines 300,000 unique suspected phishing scams for the period October 2006 – September 2007.

"Phishing is a fraudulent attempt, usually made through email, to steal personal information. Phishing emails usually appear to come from a well-known organization and ask for personal information — such as credit card number, social security number, account number or password".
The most spoofed brands were eBay and PayPal. Among Canadian companies, Royal Bank of Canada was 28th, TD Canada Trust 30th, BMO Financial 34th, CIBC 38th.
