Official Languages and the Canadian Parliament
"The purpose of this paper is to provide a brief overview of the range of official languages rights and obligations that directly relate to Parliament. It examines those provisions based on their legislative source. First, the paper considers the guarantees and obligations arising from the Constitution, by examining the relevant provisions of the Constitution Act, 1867, as well as the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Second, it analyzes the statutory provisions contained in the Official Languages Act. Third, the paper looks at some of the specific aspects of parliamentary procedure as they relate to official languages.."The Weekly Checklist includes a listing of book and serial titles which have been released during the previous week by the Parliament of Canada, federal departments, and Statistics Canada.
